A Letter from the Pastor
I can remember being a young man as my mother brought me to church Sunday after Sunday. That small church that I grew up in didn't have new technology, fancy lighting, or cool instruments. And for a young kid like me, none of that stuff really mattered. What I came to know before I learned the narrative of the Bible and before I learned any theology was that these people cared. These church people were not my relatives, but they cared for me every week. They taught me in Sunday School, prayed for my family, and welcomed us with open arms. That stuck out to me first.
The second thing I learned growing up in church was that they talked about Jesus every Sunday. The preacher and teachers said there was a loving God who desired a relationship with us, and this God sent His only Son to die on the Cross for our sin. I was captivated by this, and still am to this day. I have never been able to get over the fact that Jesus left his heavenly throne, and put on a crown of thorns simply to say "this is how much I love you." I will never forget the day I was gathered in a small sunday school room with 2 other boys and prayed with the Pastor to trust in Christ as my Savior.
My prayer today is that people who visit Friendship will know those same two things: there are people who care about you, and there is a Heavenly Father who loves you more than we ever will.
It is my privilege to Pastor the friendliest church in Concord, NC.
